Program Overview |
The RRJJC Therapy Department applies a cognitive based therapeutic approach that embraces both Reality Therapy (Choice Theory) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into its service milieu. As such, our residents are exposed throughout their stay to an integrated treatment modality that emphasizes critical thinking in their personal decision making process and interactive relationships. Indeed, it is our view that coherent and cogent thinking when correlated with the underlying reality (understanding) of feelings and emotions leads to increased individuation (personal development) and self-confidence.
Our approach is also holistic as clients attend regular on-site scheduled academic classes, participate in exercise and organized sports activities, spiritual services, and actively participate in family therapy sessions at least once monthly.
Overall, we administer several specialized programs: (1) The Male and Female Sex Offender Treatment Program; (2) The General Male and Female Offender Program; and (3) Future Builders; and (4) HIV Prevention. We also provide Outreach Education Services (which include Substance Abuse Education and Prevention Services, Individual and Family Counseling Services, and Education and Prevention Services; i.e., Anger Management, Life Skills, and Parenting Skills classes).
Our program also provides residents with full access to health care services (including mental health treatment). The facility has on staff a Licensed Medical Professional to oversee medication management. We also maintain contracts with other support medical specialists such as physicians, dentists, and optometrists to ensure and maximize full delivery of services to our residents. Our licensed psychological staff also provides full Clinical, Substance Abuse, and Forensic (fitness to proceed) psychological evaluations as required or requested by our referral sources.
Upon arrival all residents meet with their assigned therapist and through a conjoint effort complete an initial treatment plan tailored specifically to their individual needs. Probation Officers and parents are also included as part of this treatment planning process as well as subsequent case plan reviews (which are effected every 90 days). Interim monthly progress reports delineating the resident's program participation area are also provided by therapists to the referring probation office.
Residents are also required to participate in a level system (1-4) and individually appear before a level hearing review board (comprised of representatives from Security, Therapy and Education Departments) every 30 days to gauge their level of progress, overall participation, and behavioral compliance. Progression in program level requires unanimous endorsement by all departmental components.
